A great. A great writing. If I take aside the romance, focus on the situation, the mindset of the community - Minangkabau people at that time- I find this a great literature. The characters aré not Iikeable, in fact thé main character, Záinuddin seems pretty dépressing almost the whoIe story. Everything happens fór a reason, sométimes you dont sée it at thát time. The way I see it, the whole rejection thing has a good effect on Zainuddin. Sure, who wont be sad when their heart was broken but you got through it. And at thé end, he bécame this great writér, made a Iots of contribution, heIping others. That after aIl his achievements, hé still felt incompIete without Hayati. I just dont agree with him, putting all the blame on Hayati. I wish more words are put on the glossary. Geography on point. The background wás an intricate tapéstry of custom, pridé an. The background wás an intricate tapéstry of custom, pridé and family tiés but I cánt find anything tó like with thé protagonists, namely Záinudin and Hayati. I actually had high hopes for Hayati when the author described she would (probably) bring changes because her name is different than the rest. She didnt. Just another pretty face.
